Woodford Taxi Maxi, Approximately 90 kilometres to the west of Sydney is the town of Woodford, which can be found in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. It is situated at an elevation of 609 metres above mean sea level. It has a railway station on the Main Western railway line, which was built in 1868 and was originally known as Buss’s Platform. The station is served by Blue Mountains services that are provided by NSW TrainLink. The town is situated on the Great Western Highway. There were 1,934 people living in Woodford at the time of the census in 2016.
Twenty Mile Hollow was the name that locals used to call this place in the past. In the 1830s, The Woodman inn was established there. From another ten years, the inn was rechristened the King’s Arms; but, after the year 1855, it was commonly referred to as Buss’s Inn. After some time had passed, a Sydney businessman by the name of Alfred Fairfax converted the building into a private residence and named it Woodford House. The Woodford train station received its new moniker in the year 1871. After some time, Woodford House was transformed into a prestigious private school for boys, which is today a national historic site.
On the 14th of December in 2002, Chris Parr, who was serving as the station master at Woodford at the time, buried a time capsule in honour of the station’s 100th anniversary. He put together a time capsule with contributions from the community that will be opened in one hundred years.
Woodford is well-known among hikers and mountain bikers since it serves as the jumping off point for the illustrious Oaks and St. Helena courses. It is also the terminus of the Andersons and Ingar fire pathways, which are popular among mountain bikers and hikers. For the purpose of raising money, Careflight International hosts the Woodford to Glenbrook Classic during the months of June and July. This event is a combined cycling and running competition that takes place from the Woodford railway station to the Euroka picnic area in Glenbrook within the Blue Mountains National Park. The Classic spans a total distance of 25 kilometres and travels along the Oaks and Bennetts Ridge fire trails.
There are opportunities for bushwalking and photography in locations such as Mabel Falls Reserve, Murphys Glen, and Wilson Glen (on the south side) (on the north side).
