Woodbine Taxi Maxi, Woodbine is considered a suburb of Sydney within the Australian state of New South Wales. It is located within the Campbelltown local government area and is a part of the Macarthur region. 55 kilometres separate the Sydney central business district from the south-west. 2560 is also the postal code for Campbelltown, which is located adjacent to Woodbine.
From the 1870s to the 1960s, a prominent local family known as the Paytens resided in a local cottage bearing the name Woodbine. Originally, Woodbine was a farm. James Payten’s cottage formerly stood on the hill that is now known as Payten Reserve. His daughter Rose Payten won the New South Wales Tennis Championship and is regarded as Campbelltown’s first sports icon. She was the New South Wales Triple Crown Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles Champion from 1901 to 1904 and again in 1907. Rose Payten Drive is the name of the road that connects Woodbine and Leumah and is named after her. During an argument about the name of the suburb in the Council, a disgruntled councillor reportedly suggested that it be named after the cigarettes that his chain-smoking colleagues smoked, and from this offhand remark, the name Woodbine was given serious consideration.
More than 30,000 years ago, people who spoke the Tharawal language inhabited the area now known as Woodbine. Rock engravings, cave paintings, axe grinding grooves, and shell middens are some of the artefacts that remain on the ground as evidence of the former inhabitants. Kanbyugal Reserve is the name of a nearby park that was named after a Tharawal chief who met the explorer George Caley in the area in the early 19th century.
Beginning in the early nineteenth century, British settlers began establishing farms and orchards in the region. Rose Payten died in 1951, and her charming Woodbine residence was demolished in the 1960s due to its advanced age. In the 1970s, real estate developers began considering the Campbelltown region as a possible site for new developments in the rapidly expanding city of Sydney. 1976 was the year in which the first residents moved into the homes constructed by developers such as Landcom. The original intention was to honour John Kidd, a local representative who served from 1877 to 2004, by naming the neighbourhood Kiddlea. Several councilmembers opposed the concept, and when the reference to Woodbine Cottage was brought up in council, the name was changed to Woodbine.

Sydney’s beaches influenced the naming of the streets in the Woodbine neighbourhood. When designing the suburb’s streets, the architects exercised creativity and arranged them geographically. The northern beaches of Sydney, including Terrigal, Patonga, Avoca, Long Reef, Mona Vale, and Manly, inspired the naming of the city’s northernmost neighbourhood, North Woodbine. A number of southern beaches, including Cronulla, Elouera, Wanda, Bondi, and Coogee, inspired the naming of the southern end. The municipality decided to construct luxury homes in the approximate centre of the suburb. In the 1980s, the treeless ridge was transformed into a community forest and given the name Kanbyugal Reserve, after an Aboriginal warrior chief who was known to have roamed the area during the 1800s. The Woodbine Ponds area in front of the forest is currently neglected, but the local administration has expressed interest in transforming it into parkland in the future.
Ettalong Place was the site of Australia’s first underground display home, which Jewan Constructions built in 1981.
Woodbine, a Sydney suburb, contains one of the highest concentrations of dining establishments. Woodbine, which is located at the northern entrance to Campbelltown, has been the site of a large number of quick-service restaurants, including McDonald’s and KFC, for many years. In addition, there are an Oporto Restaurant, a Red Rooster, and a Hungry Jack’s on the property. In Sydney, family-friendly dining options include the Sizzler, Outback Steakhouse, and Hooters, with the Sizzler and Hooters being two of only three restaurants of their kind in the city. Woodbine is the gateway to Campbelltown and Sydney’s closest approximation of an American town. It has been affectionately nicknamed “cholesterol corner” due to the abundance of restaurants and the proximity of the Ibis Budget Hotel and Quest Apartments.
