Winmalee Taxi Maxi, New South Wales contains the town of Winmalee, which is located in that state. The suburb of Winmalee can be found in the City of Blue Mountains local government region, which is 77 kilometres west of Sydney. According to the census completed in 2011, Winmalee had a total population of 6,593.
In 1972, Winmalee, which had previously been known as North Springwood, became an incorporated city. Because it was the first European settlement in the Blue Mountains, Springwood holds a notable place in history. Winmalee is surrounded on all sides by the Blue Mountains National Park. This National Park is included on the World Heritage List due to its status as a component of the Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site. Unofficially, the Blue Mountains region is known as “The City Within a World Heritage National Park.” This moniker was given to the area because of its unique location. The area known as Winmalee extends from Birdwood and Paulwood Avenues all the way to Coramandel Avenue and then continues on to the east until it reaches a position roughly in the middle of Singles Ridge Road.
It is usually believed that the term “north” in Winmalee comes from an Aboriginal language. This assertion is questionable, however, given that indigenous societies did not make use of the directions north, south, east, or west. It is more likely a typo of Wimlah, which is the name of one of the Three Sisters, which is a rock formation located around 35 kilometres to the west.
