Whalan is a neighbourhood in the city of Sydney, which is located in the state of New South Wales in Australia. Within the jurisdiction of the City of Blacktown, the suburb of Whalan can be found approximately 44 kilometres to the west of the Central Business District of Sydney. Whalan High School was closed down not long after the debacle involving the Daily Telegraph newspaper and Mt. Druitt High School HSC students who were wrongly labelled as “failures” (for which the newspaper apologised and settled out of court a class action brought by students and teachers). Several of the local high schools were consolidated into Chifley College, which now has campuses in the neighbouring communities of Dharruk, Shalvey, North St. Marys, and Bidwill. These schools had previously been closed down and reorganised. At the moment, both Halinda and the headquarters of the PCYC make use of the grounds and the buildings.
