John King-Lethbridge, the son of Robert Copland Lethbridge and Mary King, was known to have owned a piece of land in the area referred to as Tregear at one point in time. It takes its name from an estate in Cornwall, England, that belonged to the Lethbridge family for generations. Before the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) acquired possession of the land in 1942, it was owned by the Lethbridge family. After that, in 1951, the land was put up for sale.
