The southern metropolitan area of Sydney, located in New South Wales, Australia, is the topic of this article. The local government areas of Georges River Council, Sutherland Shire Council, and a portion of Bayside Council, all of which are located south of the Georges River, are considered to be a part of Southern Sydney. Collectively, these local government areas make up the St. George region (often referred to as “The Shire”). In point of fact, the St. George-Sutherland Statistical Subdivision of the Australian Bureau of Statistics is a typical way to abbreviate the name of the region.
