Prospect is a Sydney neighbourhood located in New South Wales, Australia. Prospect, a part of Greater Western Sydney, is located 32 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Blacktown. Prospect, one of Sydney’s older neighbourhoods, derives its name from the neighbouring landmark Prospect Hill, from where tourists may enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.
It began as a colony of liberated inmates and evolved into a village over time. In order to raise livestock, build churches, inns, schools, shops, and a big reservoir, more land has been cleared since colonisation. Charles Darwin travelled to Prospect in January 1836 in order to investigate the geology.
Due to its proximity to the Great Western Highway and the M4 Motorway, Prospect provides easy access to the city’s western areas as well as the Sydney CBD to the east.
Prospect Highway links Blacktown’s central business district to Prospect.
The North Shore, Northern, and Western Lines of Sydney Trains are particularly accessible from the Blacktown train station via the NSW TrainLink and Sydney Trains networks. Between Prospect and Blacktown, a variety of bus carriers operate connecting service through Blacktown Road.
• In the 1790s, Pemulwuy, a member of the Bidjigal tribe, was the chief organiser of indigenous raids against the New South Wales colony. He is among the renowned suburban inhabitants.
Along with Gregory Blaxland and William Charles Wentworth, William Lawson researched a route through the Blue Mountains. In 1797, the situation intensified, and his insurgents began conducting routine raids on Parramatta and Prospect Hill surrounding communities. He was granted 500 acres in Prospect, where he later built a substantial residence and named it Veteran Hall.
• Natasha Crofts was named mother of the year in Australia in 2007.
