It is situated twenty kilometres north-east of the Sydney Central Business District and falls under the jurisdiction of the Northern Beaches Council. The area known as the Northern Beaches includes Oxford Falls, which is also regarded to be a part of the Forest District, sometimes known as The Forest in a more colloquial sense.
Alexander Bowen was given a land grant of 200 acres in this area in the year 1878, and he dubbed it Bloodwood Gully. In 1902, the local government officially approved Oxford Falls as the suburb’s name. The former Governor of New South Wales, John de Vere Loder, 2nd Baron Wakehurst, is honoured by the naming of Wakehurst Parkway (1937–1946).
The Oxford Falls Post Office first opened its doors on January 2, 1924, and operated until 1984 before finally closing its doors.
There are two waterfalls known as the Oxford Falls located on Middle Creek, which runs to the north and converges with Oxford Creek. Middle Creek is the destination of Meandering Creek. Cromer’s portion of the border is delineated by Wheeler Creek. To the north of the neighbourhood is where you’ll find Garigal National Park.
