North Curl Curl Taxi Maxi, North Curl Curl is a suburb located in northern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is 19 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district and falls under the jurisdiction of the Northern Beaches Council for the purposes of local government. It is a neighbourhood situated in the Northern Beaches region.
It’s possible that the name Curl Curl comes from the Aboriginal term curial curial, which translates to “river of life.”
The lagoon that is now known as Curl Curl Lagoon was formerly known as Harbord Lagoon. Originally, the lagoon that is now known as Curl Curl Lagoon was called Manly Lagoon. Manly Lagoon flows into the ocean at Queenscliff. This was due to the fact that the land grant known as “Harbord” initially encompassed a far broader area than the subsequent suburb that was given the same name. The names were altered as part of a larger renaming procedure that took place in the 1980s in order to more accurately reflect the geographic positioning of the lagoons.
On June 10, 1923, the North Curl Curl Post Office opened for business. In 1948, it was renamed the Curl Curl North Post Office.
The North Curl Curl Surf Life Saving Club is responsible for the safety of the beach in North Curl Curl. Green and gold are the colours that represent the North Curl Curl Knights, who compete in the local rugby league competition.
The extensive parks and playing field areas to the north of the lagoon are home to a variety of sport and recreation facilities. These facilities include the Bowling Club (which used to be known as the Curl Curl Women’s Bowling Club but is now managed by the Dee Why RSL Club), the Curl Curl Youth Club, soccer fields, baseball fields, cricket pitches, netball courts, and rugby league and rugby union fields, respectively.
