Mount Wilson Taxi Maxi, Mount Wilson is located in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, Australia, and is home to both a peak and a hamlet of the same name. The location of the village is approximately 100 kilometres to the west of Sydney and 14 kilometres to the east of Bell. Mount Wilson had a total population of 218 residents at the time of the census in 2006.
Edward Wyndham is credited for the mapping of the Mount Wilson region in the year 1868. In later years, it was given its current name, which honours John Bowie Wilson, who served as the Secretary for Lands in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly during that time. In the latter half of the 19th century, the new municipality was recognised for its desirability as a retreat for the wealthy during the warm summer months. The large gardens that surround the structures were designed to take advantage of the volcanic soil’s high fertility. The children of Henry Marcus Clark built St. George’s Church, which was dedicated in 1916, and George Henry Cox, the grandson of William Cox, who built the first passage across the Blue Mountains, built the residence Withycombe on The Avenue.
His parents made their home in Mount Wilson from 1912 until 1937, during which time Patrick White, a novelist, spent part of his childhood there and wrote about it in his memoir Flaws in the Glass, published in 1981. His parents lived in Mount Wilson. He refers to the neighbouring rock structure as “one of those repetitive Australian tourist attractions called Chinaman’s Hat” in his book Flaws in the Glass.
