Mosman is a suburb located on the Lower North Shore of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. Mosman is located eight kilometres north-east of Sydney’s central business district and acts as the Municipality of Mosman’s administrative centre.
In 1831, Archibald Mosman (1799–1863) and his twin brother George received a 4-acre (16,000 m2) land grant in the area. They were interested in shipping, therefore they erected a whaling station in Mosman’s Harbor, a bay within Sydney Harbour. Later, George engaged in grazing, whilst Archibald continued his whaling endeavours. In 1838, he had 108 acres (0.44 km2) of Mosman shoreland. Archibald was buried in the St Jude’s Church cemetery in Randwick. His funeral arrangements are handled by the Mosman Council.
Between Sydney Harbour and Middle Harbour is the Mosman peninsula. Balmoral, Chinamans, Obelisk, and Cobblers are some of the harbour beaches. Additional attractions include the Taronga Zoo, Bradleys Head, and areas of Sydney Harbour National Park. Highland games are traditionally held the day following St. Andrew’s Day celebrations. Curlew Camp is situated on the eastern bank of Sirius Cove, where artists such as Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton previously camped. The Council just constructed the Curlew Camp Artists Walk. Ashton Park is a prominent location that has Athol Hall, a café that is open seven days a week.

[4] Bungaree (about 1775–1830) was a notable Aboriginal who accompanied British explorers on missions, including Matthew Flinders’ 26-year exploration of Australia. Later, he became leader of his tribe, was granted land at Georges Head, and had the support of Governor Lachlan Macquarie. He greeted newcomers whose ships landed at Port Jackson and met with Russian and French explorers. His likeness was frequently painted and exhibited in London, Paris, and Moscow.
