Mona Vale Taxi Maxi, Mona Vale is a Sydney suburb in Australia’s New South Wales state. It is situated in the Northern Beaches region, 28 kilometres north of Sydney’s central business district. Formerly the administrative hub of Pittwater Council, it is now situated within the jurisdiction of Northern Beaches Council.
Indigenous peoples called the region “Bongin Bongin.” The earliest land concessions in the area of Pittwater were not issued until April 1813, and the parts that currently make up Mona Vale were granted to Robert Campbell in May 1814, after they had been surveyed (1769-1846). These initially comprised 700 acres (2.8 km2) extending from Mona Vale to the northern end of Newport Beach. Local legend indicates that Campbell picked the name Mona Vale in honour of a Scottish town with the same name; however, the precise location of this settlement remains unknown. After the relocation of the council chambers from Warriewood to Mona Vale in 2005, Pittwater Council made Mona Vale its administrative centre. Since then, Pittwater Council has been merged with that of Warringah and Manly to become the Northern Beaches Council.
Mona Vale is situated at the intersection of two main roads (Mona Vale Road A3 and Pittwater Road A8) and is reachable by B-Line bus from the heart of Sydney (Wynyard Station). On Darley Street is a neighbourhood bus depot.
