Middle Cove is a suburb on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, seven kilometres north of Sydney’s central business district, in the City of Willoughby’s local government area.
Middle Harbour, Eastern Valley Way, and Middle Cove border each other. Castlecrag and Willoughby North, neighbouring settlements, share Middle Cove’s 2068 postcode.
In 2016, Sydney’s 30 most livable suburbs included Middle Cove.
Middle Cove located between Castle and Crag Cove, hence its name. Dick Dusseldorp subdivided Middle Cove in 1957 after buying most of the land from New South Wales. Dusseldorp founded Lend Lease, GPT, and MLC. The Dusseldorp family lived in Middle Cove until the patriarch’s 2000 death. Dusseldorp’s honeycomb-inspired Middle Cove house is one of Australia’s top five house designs.
Middle Cove homes with great architecture have sold for record prices in recent years. The Quarterdeck’s Glynn Nicholls house and Highland Ridge Road’s James Pedersen mansion are examples. The latter property sold for about A$4.3 million in 2016, setting a suburb record.
Middle Cove’s Eastern Valley Way shopping centre has small shops. However, Chatswood’s closeness makes Middle Cove one of Australia’s best-serviced localities.
The 207, 209, and 208 travel from Castlecrag or Northbridge to Sydney’s Wynyard bus station via Middle Cove. Eastern Valley Way intersects a major road with a bus station. Middle Cove’s bus 275 goes to Chatswood on the North Shore line.
