As a suburb of Sydney’s New South Wales, Australia, Lavender Bay sits right on the water. North Sydney Council administers the area where Lavender Bay may be found, which is around 3 km north of Sydney’s central business district.
Lavender Bay, located on Sydney Harbour to the west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, is the inspiration for the suburb’s moniker. North Sydney, a residential neighbourhood, is located between Milsons Point and McMahons Point. Views of Sydney Harbour are spectacular from the residential area of Lavender Bay.
In honour of George Lavender, the Boatswain of the prison hulk Phoenix, which was docked in Lavender Bay for a long time, the bay was given its namesake. Hulk Bay, or occasionally Phoenix Bay, was the bay’s former name. Billy Blue’s neighbour, George Lavender, had a home on 14 neighbouring acres. The former Milsons Point train station was replaced by the newer Lavender Bay station on May 30, 1915. Passengers refused to get off here and instead insisted that trains stop at Milsons Point, hence this service only lasted seven weeks. Since the harbour bridge was being built, the North Shore Line ended at Lavender Bay Station. Railway sidings have been built there.
In the bay, there is a wharf that can be used by private boats. Located near the current ferry wharf, the historic Lavender Bay Baths were built in 1910 and were formerly a popular swimming spot.
Near her house, in the space between Clark Park and the abandoned railroad, Wendy Whiteley has cultivated a beautiful garden. You can visit this public garden, which goes by the name “Wendy’s Secret Garden.”
