Hebersham was named after the Anglican Bishop of Calcutta who lived in New South Wales and was named Reginald Heber of Calcutta. The Trustees of the Clergy and Schools Lands in New South Wales planned to build a town called Hebersham on the Western Highway, west of Eastern Creek, in 1829. It would be called Hebersham. Even though it never happened, this modern suburb took the name.
During the 2016 population census, there were 5,685 people living in Hebersham.
6.4% of the people living there were Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
58.1% of people in Australia were born. The next most common places to be born were the Philippines (4.7%), Fiji (4.3%), New Zealand (4.3%), Pakistan (2.2%), and England (1.9%).
People only spoke English at home 59.2% of the time. After Arabic (4.1%), Samoan (3.6%), Urdu (3.5%), and Tagalog (3.3%), Hindi was the second most common language spoken at home.
In the survey, Catholicism was mentioned by 26.7% of people, No Religion by 17.7%, Anglicanism by 11.7%, and Islam by 11.4%.
