Harris Park Taxi Maxi, Harris Park is a Greater Western Sydney neighbourhood situated in New South Wales, Australia. Harris Park is located 23 kilometres west of Sydney’s central business district inside the local government area of the City of Parramatta and is a part of Greater Western Sydney. Indians and Hindus are the predominant racial and religious groups in Harris Park, where they constitute the majority of the population.
One of the historic sites located in Harris Park is Experiment Farm.
James Ruse was the first convict in the colony to obtain land in this region from Governor Arthur Phillip in 1791. He founded Experiment Farm, Australia’s first private farm, where the nation’s first wheat was planted. John Harris, who had previously won land grants in the region in 1793 and 1805, acquired the site in 1795 and built a cottage there. John Harris is recognised with the naming of Harris Park in his honour. The cottage is classified as historically significant and is open to the public.
John Macarthur built Elizabeth Farm in 1793. It is believed that the architect John Verge worked on the edifice between the late 1820s and the late 1840s, when the building underwent considerable alterations and extension. It is now a part of the historic district of Rosehill.
In the early 1820s, Macarthur built Hambledon Cottage for his children’s governess, Penelope Lucas. Henry Kitchen designed the main wing, and the home served as a viceroyal guesthouse until 1883. It is an official landmark. Rosehill’s Penelope Lucas Lane was named in her honour.
In the 1880s, Arthur Latimer McCredie, an architect and councillor for Parramatta Council, built Kenilworth on Allen Street. His dwelling for the most portion of the remainder of his life was a two-story Victorian Italianate structure. Despite the fact that his will expressly forbade the property from being given to Catholics, it was purchased by the Sisters of Mercy, who ran it as the Convent of Mercy from 1927 until 1998. The school was subsequently renamed the Australian International Performing Arts High School. In 2013, it was changed into Holy Spirit Seminary, the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta’s seminary. The National Register of Historic Places includes Kenilworth.
In Harris Park, there is a small shopping district around Marion Street. It is in close proximity to Parramatta’s commercial centre. Sydney Trains’ North Shore, Northern & Western Line services the Harris Park station.
