This area was known as the “Bush.” It took seven years before the discovery of the healthy herd, which during that time had increased in number.
In 1795, Governor Hunter conducted an inspection of the region and decided to honour the herd by naming it Cowpastures. However, immigrants such as John Macarthur quickly petitioned the governor for land concessions in the fertile agricultural sector after the territory was named a government reserve.
The trader Captain William Douglas Campbell was awarded compensation for the loss of his ship, the Harrington, which had been taken by convicts from its anchoring in Sydney Harbour on the evening of May 15, 1808. The event occurred in an area that encompassed 8.1 km2 of land. In March of 1809, His Majesty’s Ship Dedaigneuse and the Harrington were involved in a collision close to the city of Manilla in the Philippines. Following a relatively brief engagement, the ship was eventually beached and completely sunk. [4] Campbell honoured his ship by naming the neighbourhood Harrington Park after the vessel.
After Captain Campbell passed away in 1827, he bequeathed Harrington Park to his two nephews from Scotland, Murdock and John, who both worked the land after it was left to them by their uncle. In the year 1833, a bushranger by the name of James Lockhardt shot and killed a young man named Murdock on the farm.

Abraham Davy paid James Rofe 2,000 pounds in June of 1853 in order to acquire the property known as Harrington Park. After the passing of both her husband and her eldest son, Daniel, in 1874, Jane Davy eventually decided to sell the property in 1875. (land awarded to Lieutenant Edward Lord on 10 June 1815). In the 1950s, Sir Warwick Fairfax renovated and expanded the homestead. He also established a nursery that specialised in camellias, roses, and other exotic flower varieties. Sir Warwick managed a Poll Hereford stud up until the year 1976, during which time he was responsible for the production of a number of champions in various exhibitions. At Harrington Park, Sir Warwick invested a significant amount of time with his family and their dogs. In this setting, he found that writing, strolling through the countryside, having picnics, and spending time with his family were among his favourite activities. The estate of Mary, Lady Fairfax, is the owner of the property located at Harrington Park.
