Glenbrook Taxi Maxi. Lower Blue Mountains neighbourhood in New South Wales, Australia, Glenbrook. It is located in the City of Blue Mountains local government region, 70 kilometres west of Sydney. Glenbrook has a population of 5,055 as of the 2016 Australian census.
Glenbrook is situated between Lapstone and Blaxland at a height of 163 m and is approximately 50 minutes by car from Sydney. It has trendy cafes and boutiques, weekend markets, recreational opportunities, and indigenous flora and fauna, among other tourist attractions.
The suburb is called after Glenbrook Creek, which is located on the southern side of the hamlet and must be crossed to reach Blue Mountains National Park. The majority of the historic homes and buildings in the village of Glenbrook are occupied and inaccessible to the general public.
On 12 May 1813, when traversing the Blue Mountains, Blaxland, Wentworth, and Lawson visited the Glenbrook region and lagoon and described it as “a big lagoon of good water filled with excessively coarse rushes.”
William Cox and a gang of convicts developed the first road through the Blue Mountains in 1815, and after a storehouse was constructed near the lagoon in the Glenbrook district, it became an important stopping point. In addition, Governor Macquarie created a military depot adjacent to the lagoon to control traffic on the newly built road.
After years of use, the Cox’s road leading up Lapstone Hill encountered a few difficulties. The terrain was in times steep and, when rainy, hazardous. In 1833, Thomas Livingstone Mitchell designed and built a new road and stone bridge that were opened to traffic at what is now known as Mitchell’s Pass. The Stone Bridge, Lennox Bridge, completed in 1833 by Scottish stonemason David Lennox, is the oldest stone bridge still standing on the continent of Australia.
Due to the arrival of the railroad in the 1870s, Glenbrook became a town. From Lapstone Hill to “Wentworth Falls” on Weatherboard, a zigzag railroad was constructed in 1867. After negotiating the Lapstone ZigZag, the local inn-named “Wascoe’s Siding” was established in Glenbrook. A conduit carrying water from Glenbrook Lagoon supplied the trains with water. This Wascoe Siding passenger station was established in 1877. Sir Alfred Stephen, Chief Justice and Privy Councillor, decided in 1878 to give the station a dignified name and dubbed it Brookdale. In 1879, however, the station’s name was formally changed to Glenbrook, after the neighbouring creek and Gorge. Sir John Jamison was of the opinion that Glenbrook began in Regents Glen. Six years later, the station-area hamlet of Glenbrook was officially designated.

The Glenbrook train station is located on the Blue Mountains Line of NSW TrainLink’s intercity network. In addition, the city is traversed by the Great Western Highway.
