Ermington is a Sydney suburb in the Australian state of New South Wales. Ermington is located in the City of Parramatta’s local government area, 19 kilometres northwest of Sydney’s CBD. Ermington is located on the Parramatta River’s northern bank.
The Ermington Shopping Centre, which built in 1958, was deemed a “essential facility” by the hundreds of families living in the new Housing and War Commission Homes. These businesses on Betty Cuthbert Avenue are currently a thriving[clarification required] shopping district.
Ermington is located on Victoria Road (A40), a major road that connects Parramatta and Anzac Bridge. The A6 arterial connects Carlingford to the Cumberland Highway and Heathcote to the Princes Highway. Stewart Street and Silverwater Road are parts of this route. It connects with Victoria Road at a flyover intersection on the western fringes of Ermington after crossing the Parramatta River via Silverwater Bridge.
In Sydney, Ermington is served by seven bus lines. The 520 and M52 trains, which run to and from City and Circular Quay, stop at Parramatta Station. The 523 travels through Ermington on Spurway and Bartlett Streets before reaching West Ryde. The 524 serves Melrose Park by stopping along Boronia St before arriving at Ermington Shops. The route then continues along South Street through Rydalmere’s industrial zone before branching off towards Parramatta through the ferry port.
The 525 runs through Ermington on its route to Burwood from Parramatta along Silverwater Road. The 544 route from Macquarie Centre to Auburn also takes Silverwater Road southwest through Victoria Road. Stage 2 of the Parramatta Light Rail is a light rail line that connects Westmead and Sydney Olympic Park through Parramatta. Ermington would put a halt to the project.
In 2011, only 16% of workers used public transit, while 66% drove themselves to work (either as the driver or as a passenger)
The Ermington United Sports & Recreation Club, which was founded in Ermington in 1957, operates mostly from the George Kendall Riverside Park. Since then, the club has participated in a variety of sports and recreational activities. Archery, boomerang throwing, cricket, and AFL are examples of these sports. The club is now limited to soccer, netball, and tennis.
The first Ermington Scouts were formed in 1953.
The Tigers Baseball & Softball Club plays its home games at George Kendall Riverside Park (formerly Epping Eastwood). T-ball, junior and senior baseball are all played on 5 diamonds along the river. The central diamond bears Gary Chong’s name, who was the club’s first life member and is still an active participant.
George Kendall Riverside Park has numerous places appropriate for group or family activities. Some of these include playgrounds with covered dining and kitchen facilities, as well as a cycling track.
