Constitution Hill Taxi Maxi, Constitution Hill Taxi Maxi, Sydney and its suburb Constitution Hill are located in the Australian state of New South Wales. Constitution Hill is a hill located in the local government area of the City of Parramatta in Western Sydney. It is located roughly 28 kilometres west of Sydney’s core business centre. Constitution Hill affords views of the skyline of Sydney’s central business district, as well as Parramatta.
The region formerly comprised a neighbourhood inside the Wentworthville community. On January 19, 2007, the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales changed Constitution Hill’s classification from locality to suburb.
Constitution Hill was one of the locations where inmates participated in the Castle Hill convict rebellion. The majority of the convicts were Irish, and they would travel from Castle Hill to Constitution Hill via what is now known as Old Windsor Road. By moving a portion of the government’s soldiers to Castle Hill in order to create a diversion (perhaps by starting a fire), they hoped to weaken the government’s forces. The prisoners would then mount an assault on the colony’s governor, Parramatta, and seize power.
The government officials had a sneaking feeling that the prisoners would launch an assault on Parramatta, thus the majority of their forces were stationed there. However, as they believed the prisoners were in Toongabbie, they travelled west, only to be informed that they were instead on Constitution Hill. When the government forces reached the summit of Constitution Hill, also known as Mount Dorothy, they realised that the soldiers had not yet reached that point and were instead located farther west at Rouse Hill.
