Chatswood West is a suburb in the Australian state of New South Wales located on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. Chatswood West is 11 kilometres north-west of Sydney’s central business area, within the municipalities of Willoughby and Ryde. Chatswood is its own suburb. West Chatswood is the area of Chatswood west of the Pacific Highway, not the autonomous suburb of Chatswood West or the West Chatswood Post Office on Railway Street in the Chatswood Suburb. Chatswood and Chatswood West have the same postcode 2067.
Chatswood West is located between the larger suburbs of Chatswood and North Ryde. It crosses the Lane Cove River and occupies the valley flats and mountains that lead down to it.
According to legend, Chatswood was named after the pet name “Chat” of Richard Harnett’s (a local pioneer) second wife and the area’s original “wooded” nature.
On January 1, 1963, the bodies of Dr. Gilbert Bogle and Mrs. Margaret Chandler were discovered on the Lane Cove River’s banks, 70 metres south of Fullers Bridge. This well-known Australian mystery included Chatswood West.

Chatswood West withdrew from Chatswood on January 20, 2006, to form its own town. Chislehurst was a Centennial Avenue home.

The region is served by regular buses that connect it to the Chatswood Central Business District and other neighbouring districts such as Parramatta. Sydney Trains connects Chatswood station to the North Shore, Northern, and Western Lines. Routes 255 and 256 of State Transit connect Chatswood with Chatswood West.
