Castlereagh Taxi Maxi, Castlereagh in the Australian state of New South Wales, is a suburb of Sydney. Within the City of Penrith and Greater Western Sydney, Castlereagh can be found 67 kilometres north-west of Sydney’s CBD.
The Castlereagh Road connects the Hawkesbury and Penrith areas of Sydney, making it a crucial transportation artery.

Old public school buildings in the area include Upper Castlereagh Public School and the adjacent residences. This building, which was constructed by James Evans in 1878-1879 and designed by G. A. Mansfield, replaced a Wesleyan schoolhouse on the other side of Castlereagh Road.
A Christian school overseen by parents is also available for students in grades K-12 (The Lakes Christian College). Also located in the area is Lower Castlereagh Public School, a Primary School with a Principal who is responsible for grades K-6 (now known as Castlereagh Public School).
The suburb is one of the most historically significant locations in Australia’s colonial history as it was one of the five Macquarie towns formally proclaimed on 6 December 1810.
The Township of Castlereagh in the Evan or Nepean District was so named in honour of Lord Viscount Castlereagh, who from 1805 to 1806 served as Secretary of State for War and the Colonies. According to what Governor Lachlan Macquarie wrote in his diary, this is the case. They then gave him the name of the Northern Irish city of Castlereagh. Dated December 15, 1810, Government House in Sydney issued an official Government and General Order.
Hadley Park, located between present-day Castlereagh Road and the Nepean River, predates all other documented European settlements in the area. In 1803, Charles Hadley was given a grant, and in 1806, he built his home known as Hadley Park. A large portion of its original structure is still there. The importance of this building has been called “incalculable.” In addition to being “likely unique in its condition and setting,” it also has the distinction of being one of the colony’s earliest buildings. It has landmark status and is therefore off-limits.
Also on Castlereagh Road is Nepean Park, which was built by convict labour around 1822 for John Single. In 1934, the Dixon family purchased a historic two-story farmhouse in the Georgian style. Having a place on the state and national registers of historic places.
On April 1, 1857, construction began on what would become the Castlereagh Post Office. It was eventually shut down in 1967.
The agricultural industry along the Nepean River’s fertile river flats has thrived for centuries. Penrith’s early settlers had a strong Castlereagh connection. There are many historic buildings, like homes, barns, churches, and cemeteries, still standing in the suburb, proving its historical significance.
